Miguel Kast Prize for Free Market Solutions to Poverty
The Miguel Kast Prize for Free Market Solutions to Poverty honors non-profit institutes that research and promote solutions to poverty- utilizing free enterprise, sound legal institutions, and entrepreneurship. This Prize rewards institutes for their innovative efforts on institutional reforms in Latin America while encouraging greater innovation in developing and implementing effective solutions to poverty.
The efforts to minimize future poverty and sickness are more cost-effective, and therefore more beneficial, than popular efforts to relieve existing poverty and sickness. The Miguel Kast Prize for Free Market Solutions to Poverty recognizes think tanks that are making a difference in preventing future poverty by opening opportunities for achievement and wealth-creation.
This Prize carries the name of Miguel Kast (1949-1983), the Chilean economist who has dedicated his short life to fight poverty; encouraging hundreds of other professionals to create the most efficient means to deliver social benefits to the poorest individuals. He was convinced that economic freedom was not an obstacle, rather it is the requirement for him to fight against poverty.
