Atlas trains current and future think tank leaders to be more effective. Passion for the ideas of liberty is important to the success of an Intellectual Entrepreneur, but this must be accompanied by savvy strategic planning, effective management, and careful stewardship of financial resources. In addition to our online Atlas Toolkit, the Think Tank Primer, and the advisory services provided by our Institute Relations team, Atlas runs two flagship training programs described below.
The most comprehensive training program available for think tank leaders. Held over a ten-day period in the suburbs of Washington DC, the Think Tank MBA (TTMBA) stresses the critical importance of strategic thinking, while also training participants in the task of developing and refining a strategic plan that could be used for their institute or program back home. The course involves interactive discussions, classroom exercises, a challenging day-long group project, and lectures from distinguished outside speakers (e.g., Edwin Feulner, Lawrence Reed, Kris Mauren, and Ann Fitzgerald) as well as Atlas staff. Atlas Senior Fellow, Rainer Heufers, facilitates the TTMBA program and leads the one-on-one mentoring of program participants in the development of a strategic plan.
The Atlas Think Tank Leadership Training Program serves as an introductory course on think tank management to individuals in the early stages of starting a think tank, as well as to junior staff working at established organizations. Participants learn the basics of strategic planning, fundraising, communications and outcome evaluation from leaders of the free market think tank movement. Lectures, combined with practical application and group work provide a unique learning environment for Intellectual Entrepreneurs.
