Many consider Europe to be the birthplace of capitalism. It can help create prosperity and peace. So why then, does Europe hesitate to embrace it today? That was the question of Dr. Žiga Turk, professor at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia at Atlas Network’s Liberty Cafe event “The future of Europe versus the ghosts of its past” on May 29. The government in European countries has become too involved in the economy. Turk said, “The government does not know how to create wealth or jobs; businesses create these jobs and wealth. It is the role of the government to make a suitable environment for businesses to prosper”. From the economic crises in 2008 and 2010 to the current crisis in Ukraine, Europe needs sound solutions. If it began to further embrace capitalism, it could lead to more prosperity and peace.
