Liberty Cafe: The Future of Europe vs. the Ghosts of its Past
Thursday, May 29, 2014
Washington D.C.

Join Atlas Network for a Liberty Cafe with Dr. Žiga Turk, Professor at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.

The belief that the fall of the Berlin Wall and expansion of the European Union eastward ended the European struggle for peace, democracy and liberty has been questioned by the recent events in Ukraine. Parallel to the rising strategic ambitions of Russia are the ambitions of far leftist forces to achieve socially what failed in Eastern Europe under the Soviet Union through elections, trade unions and redistribution policies.

A crisis of democracy on one hand and an alliance between heirs to the Communist power in the East on the other poses a real threat to the hard-won liberties in Europe as a whole and puts the transatlantic partnership in danger. Dr. Žiga Turk, a Professor at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, will discuss current events in Eastern Europe and how Europeans must face the ghosts of their past in order to build a more free future.

Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. For more information and to RSVP visit the eventbrite page.
