School Voucher Discussion in Nigeria

Today, the Initiative for Public Policy Analysis (IPPA) in Nigeria had an impressive roundtable discussion on education. The title of the discussion was Qualitative Education: Lessons from India. Thompson Ayodele, Executive Director of IPPA, expressed gratitude to Dr. Parth Shah of Center for Civil Society, India, who was the key speaker. As we mentioned earlier, Shah is a key player in the school choice movement in India.

The crowd was eager to discuss new ideas for improving the quality of schools in Nigeria. One participant said:

The Voucher system will get most of the public schools on their toes. If they are not up and doing, they will have to close down. That means competition will ensure that they respond to the needs of the parents/children and not the government officials.”
