Rule of Law is a concept familiar to most of us in the freedom movement. It is unfortunate that Ecuador´s president, Rafael Correa does not seem to understand the importance of respecting the law of his land. Six days from now, on September 28th, a new constitution will likely be approved in Ecuador. The approval of this constitution not only violates the existing law, but, unsurprisingly, encourages the authoritative power of Correa.
Carlos Alberto Montaner recently wrote, Nuevas leyes, nuevos conflictos on this issue.
the approval of a constitution is not a violation of the law, it is an authorized change of law by the majority of citizens of ecuador. in fact the change of law incorporates greater freedoms for a vast majority of people who have been oppressed by the previous “rule of law”. if you are part of the freedom movement, you surely know that its hard to imagine how one can hope for a better life when one is part of the over 50% living in poverty.
