Marah Bukai is an intellectual entrepreneur new to the Atlas network. She is a Senior Media Adviser at Atlas Global Initative ‘s Arabic project Minbar Al Hurriyya. Marah was introduced to Atlas by another IE and current editor of Minbar Al Hurriyya, Dr. Nouh El Harmouzi. Originally from Syria; Marah received a BA in Arts, Department of Languages, and French Literature from Damascus University and an MA in Arabic and Islamic Civilization Studies from University of Strasbourg, France. She is a writer, poet, and professor of Arab Languages at the University of Maryland, College Park and a professor of Contemporary Islam at Georgetown University CCPE.
Marah is a journalist with a new web site called Al Waref Institute. Marah is also the founder and president of the Center of Global and Cultural Exchange (CGCX), a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, working to bridge the gap between Islam and non-Muslims with a focus on understanding culture and art.
Marah was the TV producer and talk show host for Transatlantic, a live weekly political show discussing US foreign policy and its impact in the Arab and Muslim world.
Marrah Bukai has nominated by the Campus Watch project of the Middle East Forum as one of the ‘’most thoughtful and balanced scholars among the Middle East Studies faculties in North America’’.
She is the Senior Media Adviser at Vital Voices Global Partnership , and the Senior Editor at The Business Women’s Network, MENA BWN in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In 2008 she established the ‘’Contemporary Islam’’ classes at the Georgetown University (CCPE).
Marah Bukai is a self-made, open-minded and highly educated lady that earned her social status by her own achievements and hard work. She is a very good example of the Arab woman who is sparing no effort to prove to the world that the Muslim and Arab culture is one of tolerance, progress, and liberality. Though she is not ambassador of her orginal country to the U.S., Marah may well be considered as the real spokesman of both the Syrian and Arab people in the heart of the western world.
