New Security Training Initiative

sfslogo-296x300A key driver to the mission of the SFS program is to build up the security expertise of free market think tanks that face prevailing security challenges in their respective countries/regions.  As part of this effort, we have developed a pilot project which will leverage the security experts in our network to act as trainers in short 3 – 5 day workshops.  These workshops will be used to a.) address immediate security challenges in the respective countries/regions; and b.) begin to establish partnerships that will help address these issues over the long term.  The idea is to connect free market think tanks with an interest in affecting security policy debates, to security minded think tanks that are sympathetic to the principles of a free society.

The first workshop was conducted on Jan 18-20, 2009 in the Czech Republic, in which the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) acted as a trainer for the New Economic School (NES-G) of Georgia, to help improve their capacities in dealing with prevailing security policy issues in Georgia  (e.g., the threat of Russia, especially in regard to purchasing strategic assets being privatized by the government).

Stay tuned- next week I will provide a more through description of this inaugural STI in Prague, and explain how we are exploring opportunities to replicate this program in other parts of the world.
