The Evergreen Freedom Foundation (WA) won the first-ever SPNovation award for their documentary, Flunked. The SPNovation award is given by the State Policy Network (SPN) for innovative publications, websites, marketing campaigns, fundraising or outreach efforts, programs, events or any other innovative undertakings by think tanks.
The winning documentary, Flunked, takes a realistic view of America’s failing education system, offering a disturbing look at America’s shameful decline in comparison to other nations. However, instead of complaining and doing nothing, Flunked showcases schools and teachers who have figured out a way to make things better. Flunked highlights the common threads of successful education: strong leadership, high standards, excellent teachers, and solid curricula. By focusing on schools that are successfully applying these principles, Flunked sends the message that parents, students, principles and teachers do not have to settle for mediocrity in their schools.
The SPNovation award, which is presented every other month, includes $500 plus a $1,000 grant to cover travel expenses for a staff member to present their winning award on an innovation panel at the SPN’s Annual Meeting. Only State Policy Network members are eligible to win. To nomiate a think tank for a SPNovation award, click here.
