As the clock struck midnight on Monday night, the Minnesota legislature adjourned…without voting on the Baby DNA warehousing bill. The DNA warehousing bill repeals genetic privacy and DNA ownership rights at birth. The Citizens’ Council on Health Care (CCHC) has been working tireless to block this proposed legislation which allows for the warehousing of DNA without parental consent; thus threatening the protection of parental rights and DNA property rights.
Despite this victory, the House and Senate DNA bills (HF1341/SF1478) remain “alive” until next session because the legislature operates on a 2-year cycle. CCHC will continue to fight this important battle in protecting property rights. The state legislature will convene again on February 4, 2010.
