Clint Bolick on Sotomayor

sotomayorSince President Obama nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, conservative critics have been vocal about a potentially dangerous shift in the judicial philosophy on the Court.   Clint Bolick of the Goldwater Institute’s Center for Constitutional Government shares concerns on some specific cases, but suggests her overall judicial record is not as worrisome.

His conclusion:

Overall, however, if [Sotomayor's] appellate court record is an indication of her views as a justice (no sure thing), she will be less of a doctrinaire liberal than Justice Souter. We should hold her accountable about cases in which she strayed from the Constitution–but also consider ourselves lucky that Obama did not choose a nominee who exhibits disdain for the rule of law.
