Some Love for Liberty from the New York Times

nytlogo379x64Over the weekend two articles published in the New York Times highlights the work of some good friends of Atlas. The first, the article “Give BB&T Liberty, not a Bailout” is a profile of John Allison, who was the keynote speaker for Atlas’s Liberty Forum in Philadelphia in 2007. BB&T bank is also the main sponsor of Atlas’s Atlas Shrugged program, of which several of your organization’s are recipients, the bank is also famous for creating a policy to not fund  construction projects on lands taken by Eminent Domain  (for more on that topic check out the Institute for Justice’s tireless work). Here is a brief quote from the article:

The second article, published August 2nd,  is an editorial written by Pierre Bessard, Director of the Liberales Institute in Switzerland. This article, entitled “Leave Swiss Banks Alone”, argues that while some may abuse the privilege the Swiss’ world renowned banking system should be kept free from outside interference by foreign governments.

“Unfortunately, the confidentiality that is the hallmark of Swiss banking is coming under increasing pressure. The global economic crisis has led some governments to intensify efforts to seek tax revenue abroad — and Switzerland, which accounts for nearly 30 percent of all offshore private wealth, is a natural target.”
