On a recent trip to India, I had a discussion with several prominent Indians about the lack of communication between Indian libertarians and Chinese libertarians. This, despite the fact that the two countries account for a bout 1/3 of the total global population, share a massive border region, have fought a brief war in 1962, and had a similar experience of opening their economies to both internal dynamism and foreign trade and investment.
But thanks to some hard work on both the Indian and Chinese sides, this appears to be changing. There is currently discussion about founding a project to increase cooperation between freedom-lovers in China and India.
Barun Mitra, of the Liberty Institute, has taken the first important step with his new blog, the China India Citizens’ Initiative. It looks to bring discussions of China and India together under one (blog) roof. Much of the discussion one reads in the popular press only discusses the military tensions between the two giants, at the expense of discussing the benefits of trade and commerce.
