In the past we’ve told you about an organization in Switzerland that is working to educate medical professionals about free markets, Medicine & Liberty, now there is an organization in the United States that is working toward the same goal. Housed within the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy, the Benjamin Rush Society is working to enlighten medical students around the country to free market alternatives in medicine. In addition, they are working to build a network of doctors and students around the country, by starting chapters on campuses. The first step has been to hold debates on medical school campuses. The first, held at Columbia University on the topic, “Should Universal Health Care be the Responsibility of the Federal Government?” drew over 200 attendees, you can watch this debate below. Upcoming debates, taking place next week at Harvard and George Washington University will ask the same question, with different for and against defenders at each.
