Congratulations to Ipencil Institute’s Li

power-of-the-marketI was personally handed a copy of Li Ziyang’s new book, The Power of the Market. (Sadly, the book is only available in Chinese. For now.) Li is a very sharp and very insightful writer for the Ipencil Economic Research Institute, based in Beijing. Although he studied politics at Peking University, he is a self-taught economist, and seems to have a new essay up on the Ipencil website every other day.

The book is a series of essays on how the market promotes harmony and maximized human opportunities. While the first half of the book deals with China, ancient and modern, the latter half moves into comparative and development economics. It is a wonderful addition to the already groaning shelves at the Chinese books stores, and will make a nice counterpart to Chinese translation of Rothbard’s The Great Depression, which I saw sitting proudly on display at my local bookstore in Beijing.
